listening to: Explosions In The Sky – All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone

glass pitchers fall and water creeps,
into these crevices and holes in the wall,
the seraphs and cherubs recede in fear,
this is the intimidation of his will

pitchforks burn and sting at the end,
as the sky turns a bloody red in winter,
a white blanket over scattered bones and skulls,
the static of whispers is mist in the rain

Two young men sit in the debatable safety of a mudhut, as the seasons conspire to bring forth an end to all. They discuss life and the irony that permeates most of what we do; the futility and surreal banality.

There are voices outside that speak in an unbearable monotone; empty political rhetoric. Clothed in the sweat and blood of millions they shout and imply, speaking to stones and statues that don’t dare to dream.

the mob sings in chorus with lanterns on stakes,
laughing and joking, bald and wearing hoods;
they talk of a master fit to lead them and us,
they talk of being slaves to a guiding angel

and in his darkened, conquered empyrean we will stumble and collapse.
