Do You Know How To Waltz?

ah

This is brilliant.

I got accepted into Waterloo in december, because initially it was planned that start in January. However, because of various reasons after a talk with an academic advisor, I decided to delay till Fall ‘07. All this time, my parents were the ones who pushed me to apply for Univ in Canada and all.

Come July 26th and my parents sandbag me with the news that though they can splash together enough to cover my tuition and lodging during the first year, they don’t know what’s going to happen next year and if they’ll be able to pay for my tuition even.

7 months, I was told nothing. Infact, if anything, parents thought it was best that they not diminish my hopes or anything; no. They thought it was best to fuel them instead.

So, i’m in tatters. Again. 3 continous summers of misery. Should’ve known, should’ve seen a pattern.

So i’m pretty much not going to Canada then.

tennis

Filed under: Other Sports — Asfandyar @ 4:42 pm

So i’ve started playing tennis again (mostly cause now I have friends to play with). Realized again how much fun and just how tough it can be at the same time :\

I need to get new sneakers/joggers/sports shoes because the ones I have right now are shit and completely fucking up my feet :( Also, I need to take the serves easy because my need to smash them without warming up first has rendered my bicep useless for the past 2 days :@

There are about 6 courts here at the F-9 Fatima Jinnah Park and almost always they’re full with 7-8 people who keep interchanging and playing doubles, so it can be difficult to get a good practice session in before you’re made to play a doubles match with some twats who can’t play for shit. When that happens, it can be demoralizing because its hardly any fun and doesn’t really help your game.

There are some guys who also play football at the same time but them seem really disorganized and well, shitty. That helps me refrain from going and playing with them :p

I have a bad habit though; I don’t really enjoy playing with people I don’t know. For some reason, the game becomes more serious and just doesn’t become enjoyable enough. Hence the no-tennis (till a week ago) and the no-football here in isloo.

Need to get past that. Or maybe not.

school!

I have to choose from taking either German or Spanish as the requisite language course in the degree. I’ve settled on Spanish but i’m still wondering. Maybe if I learn enough Spanish in the one course i can go for German in the next. Not to mention I can swap early into the semester too since I’m allowed a two-week tryout period.

I’m actually, seriously, building my schedule around European games! I can’t be arsed to watch 90% of non-United premiership games cause they’re of such a low standard (no, this is not me implying United are gods and the only team that play beautiful football/are worth watching). I can watch lots of European games though because they have a special atmosphere and most of the time, like La Liga, there’s actual beautiful technical football rather than 100mph matches with fairly straightforward football tactics.

League games will be shown around 7:30-8:00 (i’m guessing those would be the 3pm kickoffs in the UK). Since they’re on weekends there’s no worry about classes, but the time is :( Ofcourse, none of this takes into accoutn whether every game will be shown or not; though i’m told there’s an off-campus football pub/united pub.

Aside from that, I can’t really wait for Uni. Still haven’t started the visa process though and I spend more time worrying that its going to cost me! Can’t do much about it at the moment though, since I have to pay in advance the tuition for 2 semesters (visa requirement) and that’s something my parents have to address.

trying out windows live writer

Filed under: Uncategorized — Asfandyar @ 12:01 pm

Just trying out this software for Windows called Windows Live Writer. It’s basically something that allows you to write your posts offline, and then when you go online you can sync it with your respective blog.

So far it seems pretty good!

You can also add plugins but at the moment I’m uncertain about the functionality of some of them considering I’m on WordPress and it rarely allows any form of code and all; for security reasons.

Doesn’t stop it from being a shame though.

some goings on

I know i’m probably beginning to sound like a complete whinger but i really am sick of our ‘politicians’. Except wait, I always was…

Shit.

So, a bunch of nutty clerics manage to whip up their oh-so-gullible students into a frenzy and they around kidnapping people and burning Government buildings (specifically the Ministry of Environment building, because THEY really are fascists trying to force the idea of more green down our throats when all we want is a concrete utopia). As a result, what do our mighty opposition politicians say?

Something along the lines of “It is the Government’s fault.” Rallies were held in Peshawar where anti-government slogans were chanted and threats were issued to the government to stop the action against the students or every mosque will turn into “Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa”.  Various parties are condemning the action against Lal Masjid.

Seriously? The same Lal Masjid whose spokesman has come out and said that they’ve given the go-ahead to suicide bombers within the premises? The same Lal Masjid whose students committed arson? The same Lal Masjid who opened fire on the government’s forces?

Make no mistake, Mushy’s government has a lot to answer for; but are you seriously fucking saying that he should step down and let these fucking nutjobs continue their pathetic brand vigilantism based on ridiculous interpretations of the Quran?

No one who possesses some sanity will deny that all this could’ve been avoided, but a lack of pre-emptive action can hardly be construed as a prelude to these dire events! And they are hardly worthy of such vitriol that isn’t even caustic enough to be deemed remotely entertaining.

Most of the criticisms levelled at the Government do have substance, but the support for Lal Masjid just to piss off the Government or to prove how much they ‘hate’ them when in a couple of days they’ll jerk off Musharraf is hypocritical and ultimately typical of our ‘chameleon’ politicians. Both Lal Masjid AND the Government contains assholes; just because you want your useless cretins to populate the Prime Minister’s Secretariat doesn’t mean you side with the imbeciles of Lal Masjid.

We have scum everywhere it seems. At the top and in the opposition. yay!
